As a Laboratory Technician specializing to provide essential support services within the laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrations and Experiments:
- Set up and prepare class demonstrations and experiments for research
- Support the lab sessions for students by operating lab instruments.
- Provide training for new users to perform laboratory experiments.
- Assist faculty in research.
- Inventory and Supplies:
- Manage inventory by ordering, receiving, and stocking materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of materials and equipment loaned to students, instructors, and other departments.
- Coordinate with suppliers for repairs and new installations.
- Coordinate with facility management to arrange prerequisites and modifications for the lab.
- Instruction and Care:
- Instruct students on the proper use and care of laboratory materials and equipment.
- Monitor hazardous waste production and ensure proper storage resulting from lab classes. Perform risk assessments and prepare SOPs for relevant lab equipment.
- Provide training for new users to perform lab experiments, ensuring the safety of lab activities, providing safety induction for new users, and performing safety audits.
- Ensure laboratory security and cleanliness by cleaning up after each lab session.
- Support student projects by operating lab tools and providing guidance.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Calibrate, maintain, and perform repairs on scientific and electronic equipment.
- Supervise student use of equipment and provide guidance.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Support research activities by performing experiments and obtaining valid results.
- Manage projects to set up new labs with the required equipment and prerequisites.
- Collaborate with procurement to obtain and evaluate quotations for lab instruments.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and proved knowledge of sport science or bachelor’s in sport engineering/sport technology and proved knowledge of sport science or master’s degree in sport science and proved knowledge of lab operations
- Knowledge:
- Familiarity with motion analysis systems, metabolic assessment systems, microsensors technology.
- Familiarity with course content, safety procedures, and reference materials related to science laboratories.
- Knowledge of electronic and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair techniques.
- Proficiency in preparing instructional materials for laboratory use.
- Skills:
- Ability to identify and work with laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Capable of setting up, modifying, servicing, adjusting, and making minor repairs to laboratory apparatus.
- Skilled in analyzing equipment malfunctions and performing repairs.
