A delegation from the University of Kalba paid an official visit to Shanghai University of Sport in the People’s Republic of China to explore ways of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding areas of strategic academic cooperation between the two institutions.
The agenda focused on the development of joint academic programs, the exchange of students as well as academic and administrative staff, and collaboration in scientific research. The two sides also discussed future cooperation opportunities in light of the planned establishment of the Sharjah Center for Sport Research, a new research center that the University of Kalba intends to launch.
The University of Kalba delegation was led by His Excellency Professor Hamid Al Nuaimi, Advisor to the President of the University of Sharjah and Chair of the Academic Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Kalba. The delegation also included Her Excellency Professor Najwa Alhosani, Chancellor of the University of Kalba, and Dr. George Nassis, Dean of the College of Sport Science at the University of Kalba.
The Shanghai University of Sport delegation was headed by Professor Mao Liping, President of the University, and included Professor Li Yin, the Chancellor, along with college deans and the Director of the International Relations Office. Commenting on the visit, His Excellency Professor Hamid Al Nuaimi stated:
“This visit reflects the unlimited support and wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Kalba, who places academic excellence and global engagement at the heart of the University’s journey. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the next practical steps for implementing collaborative projects with Shanghai University of Sport, a globally distinguished academic institution. This partnership reflects the University of Kalba’s commitment to advancing innovative scientific research, developing high-quality academic programs, and enriching students’ educational experiences in line with international standards.”
For her part, Her Excellency Professor Najwa Alhosani, Chancellor of the University of Kalba, affirmed that the visit came in response to an official invitation from Shanghai University of Sport, following the visit of a Shanghai University of Sport delegation to the University of Kalba in the summer of last year, during which the delegation was introduced to the University’s capabilities and future vision. She noted that the University of Kalba
continues to build strategic international partnerships that support its academic and research directions, particularly in the field of sport science, in alignment with the Emirate of Sharjah’s vision of fostering a knowledge-based economy and enhancing the global standing of higher education institutions.
In turn, Professor Mao Liping, President of Shanghai University of Sport, stated:
“We are pleased to welcome the delegation from the University of Kalba and to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation between our two institutions. We are enthusiastic about the potential of this partnership and look forward to contributing to the advancement of the academic and research ecosystem in the Emirate of Sharjah.”
