Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology is offered by the Department of Sociology within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Kalba. The program follows the credit-hour system and requires the completion of 123 credit hours over four academic years (eight semesters). Arabic is the primary language of instruction.
The program aims to prepare qualified graduates to study human societies through systematic and scientific approaches and to apply sociological theories and frameworks in analyzing and interpreting social phenomena, issues, and problems. Students also develop the ability to design and conduct social research using appropriate quantitative and qualitative methodologies and research tools. The knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program are complemented by practical learning experiences, culminating in field training and a graduation research project.
In addition to developing specialized knowledge in sociology, the program equips students with essential skills in teamwork, leadership, communication, and effective presentation using modern technologies. It also promotes social responsibility, volunteerism, community service, national identity, and a strong sense of belonging. Through this comprehensive approach, the program seeks to prepare graduates with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to enter the labor market, contribute effectively to society, and support the advancement of sustainable development in the United Arab Emirates.

What You Will Learn
Throughout the program, students develop an integrated range of knowledge and skills, including:
- Theoretical Knowledge: Understanding the foundations and major theoretical perspectives of classical and contemporary sociology and developing the ability to apply them in explaining and analyzing social phenomena and issues.
- Social Research Skills: Developing knowledge of quantitative and qualitative social research methodologies, research design, data collection methods, and the analysis and interpretation of research findings using appropriate techniques.
- Analysis of Social Issues and Problems: Developing the ability to examine and analyze societal issues and problems, including social and cultural change, social problems, social control, population issues, and migration.
- Applied and Field-Based Skills: Applying sociological knowledge and skills in practical settings through field training, report and research writing, the diagnosis of social problems, and the development of appropriate solutions.
- General Skills: Developing teamwork, leadership, communication, and effective presentation skills using modern technologies, while strengthening social responsibility, volunteerism, and community engagement.
- Knowledge of Emirati Society: Understanding the characteristics and social and cultural structure of UAE society and analyzing its major transformations and contemporary issues.
