Position Title: Assistant Professor of Public Relations and Strategic Communication
Job Description:
The University of Kalba invites applications for a qualified and motivated Assistant Professor of Public Relations and Strategic Communication in the College of Arts, Science, Information Technology, and Communication. We seek candidates holding a PhD in Public Relations, Strategic Communication, or a related field, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Media Relations, Corporate Communication, Crisis Management, Integrated Marketing Communication, Digital Media Strategies, Social Media Analytics, Public Opinion Research, or Advocacy and Campaigning.
The ideal candidate will have a strong research portfolio in strategic communication methodologies, demonstrated by publications in high-impact journals. The successful applicant will contribute to the growth of the Public Relations and Strategic Communication program through teaching, research, curriculum development, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver undergraduate courses in public relations and strategic communication using innovative, student-focused teaching methodologies.
- Lead efforts to update and enhance the public relations curriculum, aligning it with current trends and industry needs.
- Conduct and publish advanced research in public relations and strategic communication, focusing on the candidate’s area of specialization, in top-tier academic journals.
- Apply and demonstrate proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in research and teaching.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research initiatives and pursue external funding opportunities.
- Represent the university at national and international academic and professional organizations, conferences, and events related to public relations and strategic communication.
- Build partnerships with industry professionals to facilitate student internships, research opportunities, and professional development.
- Mentor and advise students on academic progress, research projects, and career pathways in public relations and strategic communication.
- Contribute to university governance through committee participation, academic advising, and college activities.
- Engage in outreach initiatives that support the university’s mission and foster societal impact.
- Stay informed of developments in public relations and strategic communication, integrating cutting-edge research into teaching and curriculum design.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A PhD in Public Relations, Strategic Communication, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with specialization in one or more areas: media relations, corporate communication, crisis management, integrated marketing communication, digital media, or social media analytics.
- A strong publication record in reputable academic journals.
- Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- At least one year of experience as an Assistant Professor or equivalent teaching role.
- Proven ability to implement innovative, student-centered teaching practices.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Commitment to professional development and staying current in public relations and strategic communication advancements.
- Proficient in teaching online; knowledge of best practices for online synchronous and asynchronous courses.
- Proficiency in both Arabic and English (required).
