Job Description:

The University of Kalba invites applications for a qualified and motivated Assistant Professor of Sociology in the College of Arts, Science, Information Technology, and Communication. We seek candidates holding a PhD in Sociology, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Social Statistics, Sociology of work and employment, Sociology of Crime and Deviance, Sociology of Family and Childhood, Sociology of Health and Wellness, Sociology of Gender, Digital sociology, and/or Sociology of Globalization.

The ideal candidate will have a strong research portfolio in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, demonstrated by publications in high-impact journals. The successful applicant will contribute to the growth of the sociology program through teaching, research, curriculum development, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate sociology courses utilizing innovative, student-focused teaching methodologies.
  • Lead efforts to update and enhance the sociology curriculum, aligning it with current trends and emerging research.
  • Conduct and publish advanced research in sociology, particularly in the candidate’s area of specialization, in top-tier academic journals.
  • Apply and demonstrate proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in research and teaching.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on interdisciplinary research initiatives and pursue external funding opportunities.
  • Represent the university at national and international academic and professional organizations, conferences, and events related to sociology.
  • Foster relationships with industry partners to facilitate student internships and professional development opportunities.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress, research projects, and career pathways in sociology.
  • Contribute to university governance through committee participation, academic advising, and college activities.
  • Participate in outreach initiatives that support the university’s mission and foster societal impact.
  • Stay informed of developments in sociology, integrating cutting-edge research into teaching and curriculum design.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in Sociology from an accredited institution, with specialization in one or more of the following areas: social statistics, economic sociology, sociology of work and employment, sociology of crime and deviance, sociology of childhood and family, sociology of health and wellness, sociology of gender, digital sociology, or sociology of globalization.
  • A strong publication record in reputable academic journals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • At least one year of experience as an Assistant Professor or equivalent teaching role.
  • Proven ability to implement innovative, student-centered teaching practices.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to professional development and remaining current with sociological advancements.
  • Proficiency in both Arabic and English (required).
