Job Description:
The University of Kalba invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Assistant Professor of Sociology within the College of Arts, Science, Information Technology, and Communication. We are seeking candidates with a PhD in Sociology and specialized expertise in one or more of the following areas: social statistics, economic sociology, sociology of work and employment, sociology of crime, sociology of childhood, or family.
The ideal candidate should have a strong record of research in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, demonstrated through publications in high-impact journals. The successful applicant will actively contribute to the growth and development of the college, engaging in teaching, research, curriculum innovation, and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate sociology courses using innovative, student-centered teaching methodologies.
- Lead curriculum development efforts, ensuring that content reflects current trends and emerging research in sociology.
- Conduct and publish advanced research in sociology, particularly in the candidate’s area of specialization, in top-tier academic journals.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, applying them to research projects and scholarly publications.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research initiatives and actively pursue external funding opportunities.
- Represent the university in national and international academic and professional organizations and participate in conferences and events related to sociology.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry partners to facilitate student internships and professional development opportunities.
- Mentor and advise students on academic progress, research projects, and career paths in sociology.
- Contribute to university service, including participation in committees, academic advising, and college activities.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives that support the university’s mission and foster positive societal impact.
- Stay current with developments in sociology, particularly in areas of specialization, integrating new research insights into course design and teaching practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Sociology from an accredited university, with specialized expertise in one or more of the following areas: social statistics, economic sociology, sociology of work and employment, sociology of crime, sociology of childhood, or family.
- A strong publication record, with the capability to contribute to high-reputable academic publications.
- Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- A minimum of one year of teaching experience as an Assistant Professor.
- Proven track record of employing innovative, student-centered teaching practices.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and external partners.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with advancements in sociology.
- Proficiency in both Arabic and English is required.
